POSITION TITLE: Controls Engineer
REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
LOCATION: Dallas, TX

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controls Engineer with 5-10 years of experience to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, proficiency in PLC and SCADA. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, and troubleshooting KFPI Sterling automation systems, ensuring seamless integration with life safety systems, and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develop, modify, and maintain Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) code to support life safety system equipment.
- Provide start-up, troubleshooting and training services (both onsite and through remote support) to deploy, commission, and test life safety system projects.
- Propose working solutions to control system issues using the existing knowledge base within the company and utilizing outside sources of expertise as required.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Work with KFPI engineering group on new product development to ensure that the next generation of fire and gas safety equipment will meet customer requirements.
- Help to compile and write start-up procedures, operating manuals, and troubleshooting guides

QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Candidate Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science or equal experience.
Prior experiences you would have one or more of:
- Writing PLC code from scratch.
- Designing industrial control systems from scratch.
- Programming PLC experience with Rockwell Studio 5000/ControlLogix or Siemens TIA Portal/S7 platforms.
- Programming SCADA/HMI experience with Inductive Automation Ignition platform.
- Proficiency in industrial automation protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus); LonWorks is a plus.
- Familiarity with MS-SQL, AutoCAD and VMWare.
- Ability to travel up to 25-50% to customer sites for commissioning solutions, including troubleshooting life safety systems.
Additional Candidate Qualifications
Experience managing technical projects within quality parameters, cost and schedule requirements
Knowledge of and experience with:
- Toxic gas delivery systems (gas cabinets, valve manifold boxes and shut downs)
- Life safety systems (design, code requirements, application)
- Toxic gas monitoring and control systems (design, application)
- Extensive background in management of contractors and subcontractors
- Experience with the semiconductor industry and “fab” projects
Title: Designer (Entry level)
Reports to: Design Manager
Location: Dallas, TX
Job Description:
The Designer will be responsible for creating detailed designs, performing calculations, and preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for KFPI customers in need of Fire and Gas Safety Systems. This role is essential to the efficient operation of our design department. The Designer will provide ongoing support by assisting with troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of various customer-related design issues.
The Designer will take a proactive approach to collaborate with customers and equipment engineers, ensuring that all designs meet NFPA, FM, and customer-specific standards. Additionally, the Designer will coordinate and lead on-site or virtual design meetings and reviews with customers or equipment engineers to ensure alignment and clarity throughout the design process.
In this role, the Designer must be capable of diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues through the interpretation of technical drawings, including blueprints and electronic or mechanical schematics.
Requirements:
- AutoCAD Experience is a must; SolidWorks is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Must be able to read electrical schematics and isometrics plumbing drawings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professionally correspond with both customers and co-workers

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Install, troubleshoot, and service gas and fire safety equipment
- Prepare quotes for new and existing customers on company products, systems and services
- Train the customer and third-party groups on gas and fire safety equipment
- Develop and routinely update training materials for all products and services
- Coordinate with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing and Customer Service departments to respond to customer inquiries and evolving needs
- Customer base for this role requires USA Citizenship
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain service history as required by customer. This may include service reports and any customer designated forms for services provided.
- Maintain service history as required by KFPI.
- Coordinate logistics and inventory to ensure prompt and effective customer service and to ensure what’s typically needed is always on hand
- Provide technical internal training to KFPI staff as needed
- Support Sales by directing customer requests for new and existing products to appropriate Regional Sales Manager and assist sales with technical support.
- Develop, maintain, and routinely update a range of electronic, web based and hard copy training materials for all products and key processes.

- Capture customer feedback on product related issues and funnel information back to service management

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Formal electronic or mechanical technical training, either technical school or military, experienced in the service and repair of analytical instrumentation.
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years or more hands on product service experience, preferably experience with gas detection equipment or chemical analyzers. Technical or Bachelor’s Degree (or similar vocational qualification) in business or technical field. Experience with electrical or electronic equipment installation and operation suitable for hazardous & explosive zones is a plus. Candidate must be computer literate in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook). Ideal candidate will have excellent oral & written communication abilities and be a proactive self-starter. Position requires frequent travel, a flexible approach to time management and a customer driven attitude.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
50% travel within the KFPI sales regions by road or air. Potential for international travel as well.
Able to operate, transport and maintain electrical and chemical instrumentation in typical end user applications.
Able to lift 50 pounds from the ground occasionally.
Able to climb ladders and work safely.
Able to work shift work, including weekends.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily semiconductor fab, subfab and supporting infrastructure.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 3-5 years or more hands on product service experience, preferably experience with gas detection equipment or chemical analyzers

This position requires domestic and international travel. Technicians are responsible for performing scheduled and unscheduled service/installation of various pieces of fire protection equipment.
Requirements Include:
- Valid driver’s license
- Clean criminal history
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug testing.
- Be a self-starter with time management skills and the ability to interact with customers in a positive way.
- Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
